Lee Marks grew up in Boston, MA and has been a quiz and trivia buff all his life. He especially likes to enter quiz and trivia contests when he can win money. But he doesn’t like the winner-take-all contests because it’s so hard to be the one winner! So he decided to set up a blog in which he asks one challenging question each day. Readers can then message Lee the correct answer and place a $5 bet through Paypal. At the end of the day, all the readers who get the question right split the total amount of money in the pot. It’s that simple! The best part is you see the question first and then you decide whether you want to bet on it. So if the question is too difficult, then you obviously shouldn’t bet on it!
If you’re wondering, this is 100% legal because federal gambling law bans entry fees and prizes for games that are based primarily on chance. Answering quiz and trivia questions involves skill, not chance. Thus, charging entry fees and giving out prizes is perfectly legal. Please note: Lee will take a 10% cut of each total pot to cover fees associated with running this site, but if more than 90% of people get the question right, then Lee will reduce his cut in order to ensure winners get their money back. So it’s impossible to lose money if you answer a question correctly.
Official Rules of each contest:
Eligibility: The contests on this website are only open to legal residents of the United States and Canada who are at least 18 years of age. You are only allowed to bet money and win cash prizes from this website if this type of contest is legal in the jurisdiction where you live. Void where prohibited.
Overview: A quiz question will go up on the website most days in the morning. Users will be able to answer the question and bet money until 8PM of the same day in which the question went up. The question will still be visible after that, but you won’t be able to bet on it.
Placing a bet: If you think you know the right answer, you should use the “Contact Form” on the bottom of each quiz post to message the right answer to Lee Marks, the founder of this website. Be sure to include your name and email address in your message. After you send the message, click the “Buy Now” button to purchase a $5 bet through Paypal. You need to have a Paypal account to complete this transaction. Make sure the name and email address in your message to Lee match the name and email address of the paypal account you use to place your bet.
Prizes: If you answer the question incorrectly, you lose the $5 you bet. If you answer the question correctly, you will win a cash prize. The amount of the prize depends on the number of entrants and the number of winners, because the winners collectively split the total amount of money that has been bet by all the entrants (minus a small commission to the founder of this site). You will be paid through paypal and we will pay you through the same paypal account that you used to place your bet. In most cases, you will be paid within 24 hours. If you haven’t been paid in that amount of time, you should email Lee Marks at email@example.com. Lee will also give you a breakdown of how many entrants there were for each contest and how many winners there were so you can easily see how much money each of the winners receive.
The website founder’ commission: There are no fees to use this site except for the $5 bet you place if you choose to enter a contest. In order to pay for expenses, the founder of the site does take a 10% cut of each total pot, unless more than 90% of the entrants are winners in a certain contest. In that case, the founder will reduce his cut in order to ensure all the winners get their money back.
Dispute Resolution: If you think we made a mistake in terms of not paying you for a question you believed you answered correctly, please email us first at firstname.lastname@example.org. We will do our best to resolve the dispute quickly. If the matter has still not been resolved, then you should know that these contests are governed by the laws of the state of Massachusetts, and by entering, the entrants agree that all claims or disputes must be resolved exclusively in the federal or state courts in Boston, Massachusetts. By accepting a prize in the Contest, winners agree that the sponsor and contest parties shall not be liable for any loss or injury resulting from participation in the Contest, acceptance or use of any prize.
Winner’s List: If you want to see a list of the winners for one of the contests, please email Lee Marks at email@example.com and he will be happy to provide it for you.
